Today is National Women’s Day. We celebrate this day in India on 13th February every year. It is the birthday of Sarojini Naidu. She was born on this day in 1879. Her contribution to politics was very great. She was a reputed poet also. In the field of poetry, she also had a great contribution. So she was very famous as a great Indian political activist and poet. She wrote many poems. Mainly her poems were on the themes like romance, patriotism, and tragedy. Her poems were of a great quality of color, image, and lyrics. Mahatma Gandhi garnered her with the title “ Nightingale of India”, or “ Bharat Kokila” for great qualities in her poems.

Nightingale Sarojini Naidu had participated in the national freedom movement and also she was one of the most famous persons who participated in the National freedom struggle.  She had made a list of new territories. At that time the society was manly of men-dominated. She played a vital role in society at that time for the emancipation of women, the Civil disobedience movement, and being a supporter of anti-imperialistic ideas. First woman governor of a state and first woman president of National Congress

Sarojini Naidu was the first woman president and 44th president of the Indian National Congress. It was in 1925 and also she was appointed as the first governor of the United Province in 1947. That united province is known as Uttar Pradesh at Present.

Nightingale Sarojini Naidu was the great fearless leader and follower of national father Mahatma Gandhi. She had participated in India’s Freedom struggle bravely and diligently. The British government imprisoned and sentenced her many times, because of her involvement in the Indian national freedom movement.

During the quit India movement, the British government imprisoned her. It was for 21 months. Nightingale Sarojini Naidu was a member of the Indian Constitution drafting committee. And also she contributed to the drafting of the Constitution.

Sarojini Naidu upbringing

Sarojini Naidu was born in a Bengali scholar family on 13th February of 1879 and her birthplace was Hyderabad. Her mother  Barada Sundari Devi Chattopadhyay was a poet and she was writing poems in Bengali literature. And also one of her brothers Harindranath was a great poet.

Apart from her position in independence and governance, Nightingale of India Sarojini Naidu was once a prolific poet and many of her poems and collections had been posted at some stages in her lifetime and even afterward. Some of her universal works are The Sceptred Flute: Songs of India, Allahabad: Kitabistan (1943), and The Indian Weavers (1971).
